How long have you been an artist? What is your specialty? Where do u find inspiration?
Practically my whole life, but started studying Graphic Design heavily at the age of 14.
I specialize in Logo Design and Company Branding. I find inspiration by surrounding myself with highly creative people and resort to Dribbble or Instagram if I would need additional help.
Do you have a job in the art industry? If So, what’s one thing you don’t like about it? If no, where would your dream job be?
I have my own business called Doug Does Design. I love everything about what I do. I guess the toughest part is customers who don’t understand how the creative process works.
Do you have a favorite Artist?
Definitely, Aaron Draplin has been my favorite designer for years.
What is one accomplishment you’ve had in your life? Does not need to be art related.
I recently completed a job for Philadelphia Eagles lineman Lane Johnson. The job consisted of three shirt designs that were completed throughout their Super Bowl run this year. Thousands of these shirts ended up being sold which raised over $125,000 for Philadelphia Public Schools. This job was key in helping me win the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Entrepreneur from my Alma Mater, Thaddeus Stevens College.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?
I see myself traveling and being able to do what I love all over the world. I also love to give back and mentoring those in the creative community. Speeches and lessons around the world is definitely in the plans. As an artist, I try to let things play out naturally. That being said, I have no time table on when I want those goals to happen.
If you could meet and talk to any person in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?
Phil Lynott, lead signer of the band Thin Lizzy. He’s dead, but seems like a rad dude to kick it with. Thin Lizzy has been my favorite band since before I can remember.
How is one way you make money with your art?
By selling my services to company’s looking to compete and stand out from their competition. I also sell my own personal merch from my website dougdoesdesign.com.
If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
I would travel all over Germany. My family has a strong German heritage.
What is your favorite brand of art supply? Whether it’s a brand of pencils or brand of camera or software
I’m a huge fan of Field Notes Brand for sketching and organizing my thoughts.
Any advice for young artists?
Do what you most love. Creativity dies when you aren’t.
