How old are you?
I am 26 years young
Where are you from?
I am from Jamestown CA, a small country town out near Yosemite, Northern California
How long have you been an artist? What is your specialty? Where do u find inspiration?
I began drawing when I was 5 years old. And started watercolor at 7, I was very advanced for my age. At ten I sold my first set of paintings, and my mother put me into art classes to help me develop further. My art instructor Diane Stearns became my mentor and would take me traveling with her. I also learned under Cord Rawlinson in high school where I was voted best artist, each year. I continued taking college art classes. I’ve had at least two dozen art instructors, but every few infused my work. My instructors wanted to change my style, force me to create as they did. Diane and Cord were the only two who taught me. I had other instructors I respected, because they let me be. And simply gave me assignments to work on, I appreciated their approach.
My main medium is water color, I like to mostly paint portraits. I sometimes do landscapes, flowers, and animals. I also draw from time to time. I learned charcoal, animation, pottery, and collage. Most of my inspiration comes from beauty models I find on IG and flowers that I see in my environment. I follow a lot of models, photographers, and talented artist on IG.
Do you have a job in the art industry? If So, what’s one thing you don’t like about it? If no, where would your dream job be?
I work as a barista, and do not serve a drink without latte art. The most beautiful rosetta I’ve ever made was of two swans together. I also worked as a Beauty model for 3 years in Los Angeles. Which is a field that involves so many different forms of art. It was so fulfilling, and a wonderful life experience. I would do it again, if I lived in a city big enough to accommodate working full time. I don’t have one single idea of a dream job, but rather multiple careers I know would bring me happiness. I’d love to continue modeling, to be a singer, teach art at the Waldorf school, act, and instruct yoga. All fields that feed my love for art.
Do you have a favorite Artist?
My favorite artist is Leonardo Da Vinci, my current favorite artists are women I follow on IG: @relmxx @lifeless_satellite and @janabrike
What is one accomplishment you’ve had in your life? Does not need to be art related.
My greatest accomplishment was helping my mother when she had cancer. She was stage 4 breast cancer that metastasized to her lymph system, and later her bones. I would cook for her, massage her, and do her hair and make up after her lymph nodes were cut out, and she struggled to lift her arms. She passed away in 2009
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?
In five years I see myself being a mother, married, with a home of my own, in ten years I see myself being successful in my career, focusing most of my attention on my family, and in 20 years, I’m going to be 46, healthy, successful, and happy, helping lead my children, and eventually grandchildren down the right paths in life.
If you could meet and talk to any person in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?
The people I’d want to talk to most are people whom I have currently in my life whom I hold dear, and those in my family who have passed, who I’d give just about anything to have here again. There is no famous person which I yearn to meet, if I’m supposed to speak to someone like that, I’m sure life will bring our paths together.
How is one way you make money with your art?
I have made money by selling art, and doing art shows. I would like very much to teach.
If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
I would love to travel to Hawaii because I have never been, and I surf. The water there looks beautiful.
What is your favorite brand of art supply? Whether it’s a brand of pencils or brand of camera or software
I love the art store Blick there are a few locations in LA, as far as brands I don’t really pay a lot of attention to that, I like quality. I still have the same watercolor pallet I got when I was 12, and have only refilled my paint once, even though I paint every week. That’s quality. Something you invest in once, and it last for years.
Any advice for young artists?
Young artists, paint and draw as much as possible, draw outside, draw with other artists, take classes, show your work, save your work, sell your work, make a collection, display our own work in your home or apt., learn new mediums, and steal from other artists, but when you steal, do so to create something better, something that is your own, something that with your own artistic voice becomes original.
