How long have you been an artist? What is your specialty? Where do u find inspiration?
Age 3 I wanted to be an artist. I have drawn since then and have been painting for 27 years. I create abstract paintings in acrylic that are about how I see and experience color in nature. Life and nature inspire me……but really just showing up in my studio and working.
Do you have a job in the art industry? If So, what’s one thing you don’t like about it? If no, where would your dream job be?
I would like to just paint and not have to teach.
Dream job is to paint from 7am-4pm and make enough to support myself.
Do you have a favorite Artist?
What is one accomplishment you’ve had in your life? Does not need to be art related.
I have shown in New York City. Which has been a long term goal for about 15 years. I have shown three times now and will have a few paintings in a new gallery this November.
I went from years and years of not reaching this goal to showing 4 times in a few years in the Big Apple!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?
5 years – painting as usual and probably still teaching art
10 years – painting only!
20 years – painting and living somewhere besides TN
If you could meet and talk to any person in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?
no one really…
How is one way you make money with your art?
Social media, studio visits, galleries
If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Greece, because I have always been drawn to the sculpture and culture. I had two good friends in college from there while I was attending Western Ky University.
What is your favorite brand of art supply? Whether it’s a brand of pencils or brand of camera or software
Any advice for young artists?
Yes, don’t take advice!
But if you must…..paint as much as possible, look at as much art as possible, and live life as best as you can. Experiences matter – so travel and learn different things.
