How long have you been an artist? What is your specialty? Where do u find inspiration?
I have been working as an artist professionally for 13 years. I make ink drawings on wood panels. I do a lot of work related to vanlife and surf related themes. I also do a lot of very vibrant semi-abstract acrylic paintings that are generally very ocean themed. I find balance in going back and forth between very detailed ink drawings and very colorful and free-flowing paintings.
Do you have a job in the art industry? If So, what’s one thing you don’t like about it? If no, where would your dream job be?
I occasionally do freelance work for a variety of brands. I am living my dream job! I really like being independent, but I also really love working with different companies from time to time.
Do you have a favorite Artist?
I generally have a hard time choosing “favorites” in any area of life…I was very influenced by Van Gogh early in my career. I love the work of M.C. Escher, Frida Kahlo, Rothko…The list goes on and on…I kind of geek out over art history.
What is one accomplishment you’ve had in your life? Does not need to be art related.
My two boys are probably my greatest accomplishment in life.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?
If you could meet and talk to any person in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?
I really love history, so there are a lot of people that come to mind. I would love to have a conversation with Montezuma. I have also been getting really interested in my own family genealogy so there are a lot of my own ancestors that I would love to talk to.
How is one way you make money with your art?
I sell art directly to my collectors. I love to be able to connect with collectors personally.
If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
I would love to go travel around South America. Just go without a plan and see where I end up. I was able to do that in Central America for a few months about ten years back and it was the best trip.
What is your favorite brand of art supply? Whether it’s a brand of pencils or brand of camera or software
Micron pens by Sakura and Nova Paint.
Any advice for young artists?
Keep at it. Make art that is inspiring to you, not what you think people want to see. Take criticism to heart but don’t let it become a dictator.
